It has been a long journey since last January and I have some exciting news to report to you all.  At the end of the 2019 season, the Thumb Area Football League ended the year with five organizations only to have four decide to leave which created an uncertain future.  Fortunately families like ours and the families at The Blue Water Ducks stepped up and formed two amazing organizations to compliment the Richmond Blue Devils only to have the current pandemic spoil our 2020 season.  Today, I am happy to report that the Thumb Area Football League has added a fourth organization with the Longhorns out of the St. Clair area.

Like the New Baltimore and Blue Water Communities, the families in the St. Clair area took the brave step to start a new organization because they wanted more for their kids and believe in the vision of the Thumb Area Football League in creating a program which focuses on player progression through flag football, our freshman division which will utilize the Tackle Bar which will be an introduction to contact and safe tackling, and our JV and varsity divisions which will safely prepare our football players for the kicking game and special teams play.

Also, with the addition of flag football, the Thumb Area Football League will have another level of cheerleading as well.  These additions will position our league to be the first in the area to incorporate this innovative approach to teach football to our youth in an even safer manner than ever before.

Over the past few months, I along with members of our league board have worked very hard at developing this.  It is because of this we have a new organization joining the league for 2021.  This also wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work put in by our very own Coach Will Toussaint.  It should also be noted that Coach Will’s efforts regarding fundraising also made it possible for our organization to purchase much needed practice equipment as well as put us in a  financially stable  position as far as the costs associated with starting up the 2021 registration process.  Take bow Coach Will, you deserve it!  We are grateful for your efforts!

The target for online registration will be sometime next week.  Our league treasurer is in the process of finalizing things on the registration website and our families will be notified when it opens up and a location for in person sizing events will follow as we are still dealing with restrictions caused by the pandemic.

For 2021 TAFL will offer the following for football and cheerleading:

Junior Freshman Flag Football and Cheerleading (Pre-K through First Grade 4- 6 years old)

Freshman Football  with Tackle Bar and Cheerleading  (Second Grade through Third Grade 7-8 years old)

Junior Varsity Football and Cheerleading (Fourth Grade and Fifth Grade 9-10 years old)

Varsity Football and Cheerleading (Sixth Grade and Seventh Grade 11-13 years old)

I am excited with the addition of our fourth organization because we have grown since 2020 and we will have the 2021 season to showcase our development model which is committed to engaging more kids into our sport all while enhancing player safety.  Thank you all for your support!  Our board is looking forward to an exciting 2021 season!

Warmest regards and many thanks!
